Foreign interference refers to covert, deceptive, corruptive or coercive activity that undermines New Zealand’s sovereignty, values and community safety. It’s not about political opinions — it’s about unlawful influence.
Report it if you or someone you know has experienced:
suspicious outreach
attempts to coerce or threaten
unusual interest in community organising
pressure to remain silent or change positions
Even if it seems minor or you're unsure whether it qualifies — it's better to report it. The New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) can identify patterns that individuals may not be able to see on their own.
Your information could help protect the freedom, safety and dignity of the wider community. The NZSIS treats all reports seriously and confidentially.
Contact us if you’d like more information, support or help submitting a concern. We’re here to help you understand what to look out for and how to protect our community.
You can report foreign interference using the secure online form on the NZSIS website or contact us for guidance.
You don’t have to provide personal information such as your name, phone number or contact details if you prefer not to.
If you’d like to speak with someone at NZSIS, you can call them on +64 4 472 6170 or 0800 747 224.
